Job Description

The Fourth Estate has a new and exciting part-time job opportunity for a Marketing Content Specialist who’s eager to join a mission-driven organization.

You’ll join a new team with exceptionally high editorial standards that’s committed to improving and helping journalists and news people with job and career choices and challenges. You’ll play a key and  pivotal role in the future of our content roadmap and you’ll be expected to quickly take ownership of content that matters to a growing audience.

Your Profile and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated success in persuasive and informative communications
  • Excellent writing, storytelling, proofreading, and editing skills
  • Organized with a high level of accuracy and strong attention to detail in your work
  • Experienced at creating, editing and publishing digital content that moves users in a real and tangible way
  • You have a positive, confident, and flexible personality, and love to learn
  • You’re intuitive, proactive and possess an agile mindset when approaching projects
  • A strong desire to learn, ask questions, develop your skills, and are comfortable working independently as well as part of a team

What The Job Entails:

  • Pitch and create a steady flow fresh content for editorial, marketing, and SEO purposes
  • Collaborate to develop compelling content and meaningful messaging based on target audience needs and product positioning
  • Ensure content reflects our brand in voice, design, messaging and quality, and maintains consistency of style and tone
  • Leverage, refresh and maximize use of existing content, and identify/evaluate new content and industry trends that will meet business goals and target audience needs
  • Monitor for hot and new topics, resources and blogs that target audience reads, and incorporate such content to meet goals and customer needs
  • Lend your well-researched content ideas to a robust editorial calendar

Our Expectations:

  • Experience creating content and editing in a newsroom or digital-first environment
  • The ability to write as well as you edit and a willingness to use this skill as needed
  • An empathetic understanding of the needs of journalists and news people as it relates to their career goals and economic security
  • Experience publishing content using a CMS
  • A willingness to learn, grow and lead as our team expands
  • An excellent grasp of English grammar that’s balanced by an understanding of how people actually communicate
  • Be flexible and understand that this is a new team and new position.
  • Able to effectively work remotely and telecommute

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • 3+ years of of writing and editing experience
  • A bachelor’s degree that emphasizes an affinity for communication (that might be Journalism, English, Communications / Marketing, Public Relations or something similarly relevant)
  • Comfortable creating text, image and video content
  • A well-above-average proficiency in written English
  • Basic SEO/SEM knowledge
  • Familiarity with an analytics platforms (we use Matamo)
  • Knows AP Style in and out
  • Prior experience in human resources journalism or content creation
